Objective: Obverse visual acuity, visual symptom and the rate of spectacle independence after implantation of a multifocal intraocular lens(MIOL)in adult patients with age-related cataract to evaluate the security and effectiveness. Methods:In this study,22 Adult catarac patients(24 eyes) and 19 age-related cataract patients(22 eyes) were devided into two groups: Group A and Group B. All the patients accepted phacoemulsification and MIOL(AMO Array SA40N) implantation. Distance visual acuity and near visual acuity were observed in 1d and 3m postoperatively. Visual symptoms were observed by questionnaire.ResuIt:The Group A showed better Distance visual acuity(87.5%≥0.5,33.3%≥1.0) and near visual acuity(62.5%≥0.5,4.3%≥1.0) than the Group B in 1d postoperatively, the difference was significant (P<0.01) .The Group A showed slightly better Distance visual acuity(95.8%≥0.5,54.2%≥1.0) and near visual acuity(91.7%≥0.5,12.5%≥1.0) than the Group B in 3m postoperatively, the difference was no significant (P>0.05) .The visual symptom such as glare were 12.5% in Group A and 9.5% in Group B(P>0.05),and can be tolerance well. The Group A has higher rate of spectable independence than the Group B(95.5% versus 63.2%,P<0.01).Conclusion .The MIOL implanted in adult patients with age-related cataract is safe and effective. It dosen't increase the incidence rate of visual symptom, and decrease the dependence of spectacle.
