IntroductionWith the progress of different types of multifocal intraocular lens(IOL),the success of cataract surgery is determined by the improvement in visual performance at various distances. As an optimal full range vision and excellent visual effect, the application of multifocal IOL has been a hot research subject recently. It must be taken careful consideration and discussion before implantation to make a positive impact on the quality of life by minimizing the problems inherent to the design of multifocal IOL which may produce night-vision photic symptoms and loss in contrast sensitivity.New types of multifocal IOL has launched nowadays, such as segmental refractive multifocal IOL,extended range of vision IOL,trifocal IOL,and so on.This study focused on the clinical application of zonal refractive multifocal IOL.ObjectiveTo investigate the visual outcomes after implantation of segmental refractive multifocal IOL and diffractive multifocal IOL.MethodsThis prospective case-control study enrolled comprised cataract patients who underwent and IOL implantation at our hospital from June 2016 to July 2017.The patients were divided into two groups based on the IOL type: segmental refractive multifocal IOL(Lentis Mplus LS-313 MF30 Oculentis,Holland)as Group A(with 28 patients,33 eyes),and diffractive multifocal IOL(Tecnis ZMB00,Johnson& Johnson Vision,USA)as Group B(with 22 patients,27 eyes).Six months after surgery,UDVA,CDVA,UIVA,UNVA,defocus cure, contrast sensitivity,HOA,CA,SA,TA and patient satisfaction questionnaire were measured.Data were analyzed using independent t test,chi-square test, and Mann-Whitney U test.ResultsAt 6 months after implantation,Group A provided statistically significant better UIVA than Group B at 80 cm(P<0.05).As for UDVA,CDVA and UNVA,there were no statistically significant differences between two groups(P>0.05).Group A had significantly larger HOA,CA,SA and TA than Group B(P<0.05).Contrast sensitivity was significantly better in Group A than Group B at 3 cpd and 6 cpd under mesopic conditions and mesopic conditions with glare. No differences were found under mesopic conditions at 12 cpd and 18 cpd.Except the intermediate visual acuity,no statistically significant differences were found in patient satisfaction questionnaire between two groups(P<0.05).Conclusion:The segmental refractive multifocal IOL provides better UIVA,better contrast sensitivity, larger HOA,CA,SA and TA than diffractive multifocal IOL.
