Objective:To observe difference clinical therapeutic effect on strephenopodia after apoplexy with penetrate acupuncture and electro-acupuncture which both combined with rehabilitation, and provide the evidence for the optimum treatment plan of strephenopodia after apoplexy. Methods:All the sixty cases in this randomly controlled study were in-patients from the Acupuncture and Rehabilitation Department of the Second Guangdong Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine.they were randomly divided into two groups combined with systematic rehabilitation training simultaneously:the treatment group including 30 cases treated with penetrate acupuncture and control group composing with 30 cases treated with electro-acupuncture.Every patient treated once per day, rest on every Sunday, three weeks per course, and one course was enough.Strephenopodia Degree, Brunnstrom Hemiplegic Motor Function Assessment(lower limb),Functional Ambulation Category(FAC)were evaluated before and after treatment to assess the therapeutic effect, meanwhile the adverse events were reported in both groups. Results:The total effective rate of electro-acupuncture group was 76.7 %including 2 completed recovered,21 improved and 7 ineffective;that of the penetrate acupuncture group was 70%composed with 4 completed recovered, 17 improved and 9 ineffective. And there was no significant statistic difference between them(P>0.05).Both groups had improvement in Brunnstrom Hemiplegic Motor Function Assessment(lower limb)and Functional Ambulation Category(FAC)and no significant difference was presented(P>0.05).Adverse events were reported in both groups, the occurrence rate of electro -acupuncture group was significantly lower than that of penetrate acupuncture one(p<0.05). Conclusions:Both electro-acupuncture and penetrate acupuncture treatments combined rehabilitation training have therapeutic effect on strephenopodia after apoplexy in regard to degree of strephenopodia, lower limb movement and walking ability in the recovery stage of the apoplexy. And no obvious difference is found between their effects. But the adverse events occurrences of the former group are significant lower than that of the later one.
