Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)'s morbidities were 2%—4.7% in the general crowd, and that specific pubic were more than 10%. Its occurrence seriously affected patients' living and working, even leaded to suicide. As people's living and working were changed, GAD's morbidities rised rapidly which domestic and foreign researchers paid more attention to in recent years. Evaluating curative effect on GAD haven't had a recognized criteria at present. so, we tried to estabish a Scale on GAD which including Physical function, Psychological function and the"zheng"of TCM. The Scale was establishment of a comprehensive reunification of standards for the Evaluating curative effect which made the comparability of acupuncture and Chinese medicine treatment easier.ObjectiveTo develop the scale including functional and emotional status of West Medicine and "zheng"of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for evaluating curative effect of GAD.MethodsIn cross-section survery combined with prospected cohort study, analyzing retrospectively the Guangdong Chinese medicine hospital out-patient and in-patient medical records for patients with GAD which visited from 2007-8 to 2008-2,111 patients were assessed of curative effect criteria, the scale of self-perceived disablement including Physical function, Psychological function and the"zheng"of TCM in face-to-face format. 33 of them were re-evaluated after 3 weeks therapy and 14 of them were admistered the scale once again after 24 hours by different surveryors. The scale of "zheng" was developed and the finial scale were tested based on the principles of developing scales by SPSS 13.0.ResultsIn the southeastern region, GAD incidence to the majority of women. Age of onset concentrated in the 30-45 years of age. The patients's average age was 40. 00±10.12-year-old. There were 8 types for TCM which were Xin shen bu jiao, Gan yu xue xu, Xin dan qi xu, Qi xue bu zu, Shen jing bu zu, Xin huo wang sheng, Tan huo rao xin, Gan dan bu zu.The main symptoms of the patients were lassitude, sweated, lumber acid, night urinary frequency, amnesia, poor appetite, insomnia, Chest tightness, physically heavy storm, heart-throb, sigh easily, dizziness, dry mouth, bitter mouth, pilfering perspiration, pale face, pale tongue, red tongue, deep red tongue, dark tongue, saliva tongue, dry tongue, white thin coating, yellow thin coating, deep thready pulse, thready rolling pulse, thready swift pulse, fade face, tarnish face, gasiform head, gasiform abdomen, prickling head, blocking pharynx, dry stool, few urinary, urinary frequency, queasiness, light catamenia, dark catamenia, goring catamenia. The final scale including 3 subscales:Physical, Psychological, "zheng" of TCM. It has good face validity and construct validity, high internal consistency(a=0. 8759,0. 7478,0. 7293,0. 8796), and high test-retest reliability (r=0.8603,0.6932,0.8061,0.8237).ConclusionThe scale has good face validity, high internal consistency, and high rest-retest reliability. It may be useful for evaluating functional limitations and perceived handicap or disability before and after intervention and for helping patients becoming more realistic in understanding their own capabilities. The finial GAD scale of TCM includes five quality variables and five qualitative variables. At the same time, the article points out it is a practical and reseanable way to developing diseased-specific scales of TCM for evaluating curative effects that quality variables combined with qualitative variables which are formed based on principles of developing scales.
