Background: Dental implants are more and more popular for the restoration of partially or fully edentulous patients. Substantial numbers of studies documented a high predictability of oral implants survival and/or success rates. Although survival of implants may be easy to understand, criteria for success vary widely among authors, which are generally based on defined thresholds of objective clinical parameters. Patient-centered outcomes, however, are rarely reported, which may represent major aspects of the implant success for the patient. Objective: To investigate patient satisfaction after implant therapy in partially edentulous patients, and find out the correlative factors that influence the satisfaction. Methods: 79 patients were recruited to answer a questionnaire, in which 14 questions were relative to subjective perception. The patients were asked to mark a VAS(visual analogue scale)score in which 0 indicated'total discontent'and 100'total satisfaction'. Correlations of the different surgical procedures, age, genders, and the location of implants recorded in the questionnaire were calculated by Spearman's rank correlation test and multiple linear regression analysis. A significance level of 0.05 was chosen. Results: 1) The VAS scores were comparatively high.2) There is no significant Correlation of the total satisfaction among the different surgical procedures, age, genders, location of implants.(P>0.05)3) Patients long-term expectations and the total satisfaction are correlative with chewing function.(r=0.608,0.582,P<0.01)Conclusion: Using oral implants, a great majority of the patients were completely satisfied with implant therapy, both from a functional and aesthetic point of view. The same majority would be willing to undergo the same treatment again, and would even recommend such treatment to friends and relatives, if indicated. The costs associated with implant therapy were considered to be worthwhile because of good chewing function.
