Background:coronary collateral circulation(CCC)plays an important role in patients with severe coronary artery disease(CAD).Stimulation of coronary collateral artery growth may be an attractive latest treatment for patients with CAD.Many animal experiments showed Interleukin-8(IL-8) could stimulate coronary collateral artery growth.Whereas platelet factor4(PF4)might inhibit angiogenesis. The objective of this study is to investigate the relation between serum PF4,IL-8 levels and coronary collateral circulation.Methods:86 patients with severe coronary stenosis were included according to coronary angiography.Coronary collateral circulation(CCC) were graded by Rentrop Grading System into 4 degrees:degree0(n=26), degreel(n=25),degree2(n=20),degree3(n=15).Serum concentrations of PF4,IL-8 were analyzed by ELISA and the extent of coronary artery atherosclerosis was evaluated by Gensini's score system.Results:(1)Serum IL-8 level in patients with CCC degree0 and 1 (247.20±34.09ng/L)was significantly lower than that in CCC degree2 and 3(392.94±33.45ng/L P<0.01).Serum PF4 level in patients with CCC degree2 and 3(2.82±0.67ng/ml)was decreased significantly compared with that in CCC degree0 and 1(5.70±0.63ng/ml P<0.01).(2) A positive correlation was found between CCC degrees and serum IL-8(r=0.892),and negatively correlated with Serum PF4 levels(r=-0.797). (3)Serum IL-8 level was positively correlated with Gensini's score(P<0.01),and PF4 level has no correlation with Gensini's score(P>0.05)by correlation analysis.Conclusions:(1)In patients with severe coronary artery disease serum concentrations of IL-8 were higher in patients with degree CCC2 and 3 than those with degree CCC0 and 1,and CCC degrees showed a significant positive correlation with Serum levels of IL-8.(2)In patients with severe coronary artery disease, serum concentrations of PF4 were higher in patients with degree CCC0 and 1 than those with degree CCC2 and 3,and CCC degrees showed a significant negatively correlation with Serum levels of PF4.
