ObjectiveThe purpose of this study was to explore the present situation of the old people's quality of life and nursing needs that lived in penury counties of Lvliang City and to find out their general health condition, the current situation and influencing factors of quality of life and their nursing needs in these areas.MethodsThe 635 old people were selected out in 8 villages of two penury counties, and the two was by random sampling from five penury counties of Lvliang City. The inclusion criteria are over 60 year's old, lived in these areas over 6 months, normal consciousness, to communicate well with others, have no acute disease or onset of chronic diseases and informed consent. Their quality of life and nursing needs were assessed by WHOQOL-BREF and a self-designed investigation questionnaire. Data were analyzed using by Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) 15.0.Results1. The scores for the old people's quality of life were PHYS(13.06±1.62), PSYCH (12.81±1.46), SOCIL(13.67±2.35) , ENVIR(12.80±1.39) , Q1(3.22±0.59), Q2(3.23±0.60).2. The scores for the nursing needs were sickness prevention(3.40±0.56), health promotion(3.30±0.70), nursing of disease(3.56±0.52), total score of nursing needs(3.42±0.49).3. The main influencing factors arranged from high to low of old people's quality of life in penury counties of Lvliang City were: PHYS: average revenue per month, have chronic disease or not, income's degree of stability, level of education and age; PSYCH: average revenue per month, have chronic disease or not, level of education, have periodic physical examination or not and marital status; SOCIL: income's degree of stability and average revenue per month; ENVIR: average revenue per month , have periodic physical examination or not and age; Q1: average revenue per month, sex, occupation and level of education; Q2: average revenue per month and have chronic disease or not.4. The main influencing factors arranged from high to low of old people's nursing needs in penury counties of Lvliang City were: sickness prevention: have chronic disease or not and level of education; health promotion: marital status and sex; nursing of disease: average revenue per month and marital status; total score of nursing needs: marital status, level of education and sex.5.Quality of life is reverse associating with nursing needs.ConclusionsThe quality of life of the old people who lived in penury counties of Lvliang City was on a low level; their nursing needs was on a high level. We should take effective measures to satisfy their nursing needs and improve the quality of life, in order to gain healthy ageing ends.
