| Allergic:rhinitis(AR)is a disease with symptoms of recurrent nasal obstruction,nasal itching,sneezing,and runny nose,which pertains to Biqiu of TCM.The main pathology of AR is chronic allergic inflammation.And recent studies show that there is close relationship between brachial asthma(BA) and RA.RA and BA are common co-mobidities.As the incidence of RA increases, it is of significant meaning of treating RA to prevent BA,and improve the life quality of AR patient.How to regulate the immunology balance system is the key of treating RA,which is a difficult problem of medicine.90 patients from the out-patient department of ear,nose and laryngopharynx,and out-patient department of acupuncture of the first affliated hospital of Guangzhou University of TCM were selected according to strict diagnosis standard,adopting norm and exclusion criterion,with 30 cases in group A(treated by acupuncture,main acupoints + Zusanli,ST 36), 30 cases in group B(treated by acupuncture,main acupoints + Feishu,BL 13) and 30 cases allotted into group C(treated by Loratiadine).All the cases which were studied are.According to unified diagnosis standard,adopting norm and exclusion standard,the proper cases were selected.The main acupoints were Yingxiang(SI 20),Yintang(EX-HN 3),Shangxing(DU 23),Hegu(LI 4), and the assistant acupoint for group A was Zusanli(ST 36),while Feishu(BL 13)for group B.Acupuncture manipulation:puncture the acupoints conventionally,and manipulate manually then connect to G6805 electro-acupuncture apparatus set on dense-loose wave output for 30 minutes. Cases of group A and B were treated twice a week with the total course up to 4 weeks(28 days).Cases of group C were prescribed Loratadine 10mg,Qn. All cases were evaluated by grade of main symptoms and physical examination, grade of associated symptoms,and oncocyte percentage(EOS%)of blood serum. Results of the study indicated as follows.1.Curative effect:patients of the three group gained great improvement (P＜0.05),and significant difference was found among the three groups after 4-week-treatment.The curative effect of group A(97.6%)was higher than group C(70.0%)(P＜0.05).Curative effects of acupunture were also found related with the disease course as follows:the shorter the course, the better the result.2.On-set time:being treated by 4 weeks,the on-set time of group A was obviously shorter than group C(P＜0.05).3.Nasal symptoms and physical examination:significant improvement was found in three groups after being treated for 4 weeks.Among the three groups, nasal obstruction improvement of group A and B was more obvious than group C(P＜0.05);for sneezing,group B was better than group C(P＜0.05);for nasal itching,group A is more efficient than group C(P＜0.05);for running nose group A was better than group B.4.TCM associated symptoms:there was no significance among the three groups, but according to Kruskal-Wallis Test,P=0.762(being treated for 2 weeks), and P=0.07(being treated for 4 weeks),which revealed that the grade related with the treatment course as follows:The longer the treatment course,the better the result.And group A is more effective than group B on treating symptoms as abdominal distension,aversion to wind and cold, the loose stool,which showed that there is specificity for each acupoint.5.EOS%of blood:by comparing the cases pro-treated and post-treated, significant difference was found in the three groups and no significance among the three groups after being treated by 4 weeks. 6.There was no relationship between the curative effect and the age,sex, stated of illness and complexion,such as BA,nasosinusitis.7.Side effect:the study showed that the acupuncture treatment is safe and could be practiced widely.After all,results of the study indicated that treating allergic rhinitis by main acupoints and assistant-acuopint had affirmative curative effects, with effects proportional to the course.
