Objective: to explore the effect of yimusake tablet on the erectile function in ED with DM rats. Methods: 60 Male Sprague-Dwaley rats with normal erectile function were injected with streptozotozin (STZ) to make experimental models of diabetes mellitus (DM), then injected with apomorphine (APO) in all of the DM rats to select erectile dysfunction rats models with diabetes. The 10 normal rats is in the normal (A) group, the ED rats were devided into the model (C) group, the yimusake (D) group, the insulin (E) group , the yimusake with insulin (F) group; the diabetic rats which didn't occur ED were called the DM(B) group; the rats didn't occur diabetes were called the STZ(G) group. After 6 weeks, detected sex function, intracavernous pressure (ICP), activity of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) in penile tissue and levels of serum sex hormones, scaled testis weight and coefficient, collected testis for HE staining and investigated the morphological changes in testicular tissue under a microscope. Results: The intromission, ICP, NOS, testosterone, testis weight in group B and C were lower than that of group A(P<0.01);The intromission, ICP, NOS, testosterone, testis weight in group D were higher than that of group B and C (P<0.05); The intromission, ICP, NOS, testosterone, testis weight in group E were higher than that of group B and C(P<0.01); The ICP, NOS, testosterone in group F were higher than that of groupD and E (P<0.01). HE staining of testicular tissue indicated that the spermatogetic cells and interstitial cells in group B and C were decreased than that of group A, D, E, F and G. Conclusion: 1) Yimusake tablet has obvious therapeutic effect on the erectile function in ED with DM rats, and with the use of insulin is better than single-use. 2) The mechanism of yimusake tablet treated the ED with DM may be related to the activity of NOS and level of testosterone.
