Objective: To investigate the mechanism of erectile dysfunction(ED) in rat models withdiabetes mellitus(DM) through the investigation of connexin43 expression in theirspenile cavernous. Methods: Wistar rats were injected intraperitoneally with streptozotocin (STZ)(60 mg/kgbw) to make experimental models of DM. Injected with apomorphine(80μg/kg),penileerection of the rat models with DM and the controls were observed and noted on the 8th,12th and 16th week from the 4th day of STZ injection. CX43 was examined in ratmodels whit immunohistochemistry S-P.Results:1,49 DM rats were observed,17,17,15 rats in 8,12,16weeks, respecty;andthe frequency of eretile were 1.0±0.0,1.0±0.0,1.0±0.0, respecty; the NDMs were 2.2±0.8,2.3±0.8,2.0±0.7, there was significant in relate with diameter(P<0.01);2,Comparedwith the controls, The positive rates of Cx43 in the penile cavernous tissue of ED ratswere 82.35%,64.71%,33.33%,respecty; while the NDM was 95.00%,95.00%,80.00%,there was significant in relate with diameter(P<0.05);and the Cx43 decreasedsignificantly (P<0.01)with the increased duration of DM.Conclusions: 1,DM affect the erectile functiom significantly;2,CX43 was observed innormal rats penile cavernous tissue, and related whit the duration of DM,with theprolongation of DM, CX43 was decreased. Therefore, decrease of Cx43 should be one ofthe most important factors of ED.
