Objective: To research the functions of invigorating the blood to remove extravasted blood in Salvia deserta Schang, filtrate the terpenoid effective fractions, determine the contents, and build up the the quality standard. Methods: 1) Study the root of Salvia deserta schang, isolate diterpenoid compounds as index from CHCl3 extract fraction, determine the contents by the high performance liquid chromatoghaphy (HPLC) and UV spectrophotometry, and build up the the quality standard of diterpenoid effective fraction; 2) Study the overground parts of Salvia deserta schang, filtrate the triterpenoid effective fraction, determine the contents by the high performance liquid chromatoghaphy (HPLC) and UV spectrophotometry, and build up the the quality standard of triterpenoid effective fraction. Results: 1) Finished the structures of three compounds from the CHCl3 extract fraction and identified them as 6,7-dehydroroyleanone(â… ), horminone(â…¡), and 7-O-acetylhorminone(â…¢). The contents of 6,7-dehydroroyleanone (2.29%), horminone (15.93%), and 7-O-acetylhorminone (9.63%) were determined by the high performance liquid chromatoghaphy (HPLC), and the content of total diterpenoids (23.32%) was controlled by UV spectrophotometry. 2) Filtrated partâ…¢which is not dissolved of petroleum ether as triterpenoid effective fraction, the determination of ursolic acid which was 32.48% controlled by HPLC method as the determination of total triterpenoids which was 83.63% controlled by UV spectrophotometry were developed. Conclusions: Reviewed with methodology, the quality standards of the terpenoid utility fraction meet the quality control requirements of China Pharmacopeia of 2005 edition. All these tests established a firm foundation for further developing and utilizing of Salvia deserta Schang.
