Objective To explore the significance of optional internal fixations of unstable intertrochanteric femoral fractures by comparing the effects of various kinds of internal fixationsMethods From January 2000 to December 2004, 88 cases with unstable intertrochanteric femoral fractures were followed. They were treated with the followed four kinds of operations respectively: dynamic hip screw( DHS, group A), anatomical proximal femur bone plate (group B),dynamic, condylar screw (DCS, group C), Proximal femoral nail( PFN,group D).The deta of each group were collected for statistical analysis on the following aspects:operative time, blood loss, introoperative complications ,fluoroscopy exposures, clinical healing time of fracture, post-opreative restored functions and complications. Results The differences in introoperative complications ,fluoroscopy exposures, clinical healing time of fracture, post-opreative restored functions and complications between group A,B,D were of no statical significance(p>0.05) . The anatomical proximal femur bone plate is a good choice for unstable intertrochanteric femoral fractures .Conclusion The anatomical proximal femur bone plate is useful device in the treatment for unstable intertrochanteric femoral fracture. The operative manipulation is simple and the post operation functions of hip recover well. But still remain to be demonstrated on evidence base.
