A Comparison Between The Four Kind Of Internal Fixation In The Ankle Joint Arthrodesis

Objective To compare the clinica therapeutic efficiency between the three kinds of tradition internal fixation and the tension band fixation to enhance the therapeutic level in the ankle joint arthrodesis.Method From 1995,5—2005,4 ,44 cases of ankle joint arthrodesis were treated with four kinds of internal fixation,the first 28 cases were fixed with tradition internal fixation (16 cases was fixed with nail and plate,6 cases was fixed with"U"Kirschner wires,another 6 cases was fixed with crosed screw ),the post 16 cases were fixed with tension band fixation. and use the bone or bone-muscle tissue with blood . They were compared in terms of fusion position,fusion time,the function of the ankle joint after operation and the occurrence of post operative complications of infection,nonfusion,traumatic arthritis of other small joint.Results All the cases were followed up for an average of five years,By comparison with the tradition three kinds of internal fixation ,the Tension Band Fixation had a high ratio of union,a good fusion position,an earlier union time,a lower ratio of infection and traumatic arthritis of other small joint,no case was needed to be fixed with plaster.Conclusion You can select bone graft with blood in the ankle joint arthrodesis, you can select muscle-bone graft with blood in the severe condition of ankle joint combining with the defect of parenchyma. you will get an earlier union time when using the tension band fixation at the same time .The clinical results of using the band fixation technique are more excellent than the past three kinds of internal fixation in the treatment of ankle arthrodesis.
