Objective To evaluate the clinical value of laparoscopic treatment for indirect inguinal hernias in children.Method The mean operation time, the duration of Hospitalization, the postoperative hospital stay, the length of incision, the blood loss in operation, the costs of hospitalization, the complications of 68(include: 59 male cases, 9 feminine cases, ages from 1 to 14 years, average age 6.09 years) indirect inguinal hernias in children from January 2003 to February 2007 undergoing laparoscopic surgery and 121(include: 108 male cases, 13 feminine cases, ages from 1 to 13 years, average age 5.7 years) hernias in the same time undergoing traditional surgery were retrospectively analyzed and evaluated respectively. Consistent with the measurement data normal distribution using t-test; not in line with normal measurement data using the wilcoxon rank sum test; Count data using chi-square test. Statistical significance was accepted when the value of p was less than 0.05.Result The mean of data of laparoscopic treatment group was significantly less than that of traditional treatment group in such markers as operation time, duration of hospitalization, postoperative hospital stay, length of incision, blood loss in operation(P<0.01) ,and complications (P>0.05). But the costs of hospitalization in laparoscopic treatment group was higher than that in the other.(P<0.01).Conclusion Compare with traditional treatment, the treatment of young children's indirect inguinal hernia with laparoscope, has minor wound, fast recovery, short hospitalized time, low recurrence in the opposite side. Especially for recurrent hernia and incarcerated hernia treatment, have a unique advantage. The clinical application and promotion of laparoscopic treatment are greater.
