Research on competency model is one of the frontier issues of HRM research now, both theoretically and practically, while few would concentrate on that for clinical subject leaders. This study was conducted to obtain the competency model of clinical subject leaders by ways of structured job analysis questionnaires and Behavioral Event Interview (BEI). Questionnaires from Occupational Information Network (O*NET) were administered to 494 clinical workers, on the results of which, further Behavioral Event Interviews (BEI) were carried out with 20 clinical subject leaders. After that, competency model of clinical subject leaders were formed through coding the transcripts of BEI and comparison between excellent clinical subject leaders and ordinary clinical subject leaders.The results of this study show that,(1) A combined method of structured job analysis questionnaire and Behavioral Event Interview to establish the competency model of clinical subject leaders is practical(2) Based on the competency model of clinical subject leaders based on Behavioral Event Interview, there were no significant differences between the excellent group and the ordinary one in terms of interview time and length of interview transcripts, which was consist with the former research results and indicates the length of interview put no significant effect towards interview results. From the interview transcripts, it indicates that the reliability of coding was satisfactory.(3) Through examining the differences in capacity performance levels, the findings show the competency model of clinical subject leaders consist of 18 competencies, divided into 3 levels, and with 7 discriminable competency, named enterprise, dedication, initiative learning, subject construction, develop subordinate, fairness, and communication . The findings also indicate 3 new competencies, named individual consideration, outer resource seeking, and business sense.
