The thesis deals with the formational mechanism of fast pulse, probes into the relevance between fast pulse and cardiac insufficiency, and makes a study on fast pulse's clinical application into the diagnosis of cardiac insufficiency. The thesis derive its experimental data from pulses collected by pulse-collector, which presents a practical case for objective and digital diagnosis of TCM.So far, the clinical research of faster pulse is confined to the simple and rough summary of the fast pulse cases in non-heat syndrome. No analysis or research has been made in the formational mechanism of fast pulse. With the pulses of the cardiac insufficiency patients collected by the pulse-collector, the thesis makes a statistical analysis of these pulses and conducts a two-way research: from pulse to syndrome (that is, to conduct the diagnosis of syndrome according fast pulses), and from syndrome to pulse (that is, to derive the formational mechanism of fast pulse from the syndrome of cardiac insufficiency). In the pulse-to-syndrome research, the thesis puts its emphasis on the relevance between fast pulse and cardiac insufficiency. In the syndrome-to-pulse research, the thesis focuses on the inherent relation between cardiac insufficiency and fast pulse. Theoretically, the thesis elaborates the formational mechanism of fast pulse and mechanism that fast pulse is synchronous with cardiac insufficiency syndrome. Clinically, the thesis offers constructive guide to the diagnosis of syndrome by pulses for those patients with fast pulse. It provides a referential alternative diagnosis method for the clinical treatment of cardiac insufficiency cases. The thesis starts from the ancient and modern literature about fast pulse, giving an overall review of the relevant theories on the fast pulse's characteristics and formational mechanism, and the major syndrome indicated by fast pulse. It makes a detailed analysis of the pulse graph of fast pulse in modem research. By comparing the pulse graphs of fast pulse with the related cardiographs, it analyzes the relations between fast pulse and cardiac diseases. Considering the cardiac factor, endocrine factor and electrolyte factor, the thesis probes into the formational mechanism of fast pulse. An analysis of the causes of cardiac insufficiency and the physio-pathologic elements of cardio insufficiency syndrome is also made. Pulse phase is closely related to the state of cardio function. The changes of pulse phase can, to some extent, reflect the pathological changes in cardio system. The thesis focuses its study on the fast pulses induced from these pathologic changes in cardio system that lead to cardiac insufficiency which usually results in compensatory speed-up of the rate of heart beat.In theoretical research, the thesis, based on ancient and modem literature, illustrates the relevance between fast pulse and cardiac insufficiency from both the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine and the perspective of modern medicine. In clinical research, the thesis adopts the statistical analysis of medical cases, monitors and records the pulse phase of patients with cardiac insufficiency syndrome, makes a classification of pulse phase of these patients with cardiac insufficiency syndrome, and calculates the probability of fast pulse. Based on clinical study, the thesis concludes the formational mechanism of fast pulse. Hence, the thesis proposes that there is inherent relevance between the formation of fast pulse and the mechanism of pathological changes of cardiac insufficiency. The value of the research lies in the following points. Firstly, it formulates the formational mechanism of fast pulse. Secondly, it illustrates that cardiac function can be judged according to the changes of pulse phase. Thirdly, it concludes that the formation of fast pulse is closely related to cardiac insufficiency. Last but not least, it presents a practical case for objective and digital diagnosis of traditional Chinese medicine. But at the same time because of a variety of reasons, some aspects in the research still waits for further improvement. First, there is not adequate follow-up check-up for those tested patients. A linear research should be conducted. Secondly, not all the pulse phases are considered in the syndrome of cardiac insufficiency. Thirdly, insufficient numbers of tested patients impose the limit of the theis. In the future, further researches on this subject will surely be needed in order to offer some new insight since the thesis only covers the preliminary stages of the digitalization of TCM diagnosis.
