Objectives: To explore the serum levels of resistin and adiponectin in over-weight and obesity patients.Methods:58 cases with normal-weight and 24 over-weight and obesity patients have taken fasting blood samples for measurements of plasma glucose , plasma lipids , insulin, C-peptide, thyroid hormones , C-reactive protein (CRP), interleukin-6(IL-6), TNF-α, leptin , adiponectin and resistin. Results: The concentrations of resistin in cases with over-weight and obesity were significant higher than those in the normal-weight cases(16.01±8.60 VS 11.63±9.05ng/ml, P=0.047),and, the concentrations of adiponectin were significant higher in female than those in male (12.305±6.88 VS 8.31±5.08μg/ml, P=0.003). Pearson relation analysis showed that serum resistin concentrations were positively and significantly correlated with age(r=0.476, P=0.019), and were negatively and significantly correlated with C-peptide (r=-0.459, P=0.024), and, adiponectin concentrations were positively and significantly correlated with HDL-c (r=0.463, P=0.023) , systolic blood pressure(r=0.409, P=0.047) in over-weight and obesity cases.Multivariate linear regression models using resistin as the dependent variable shows that the age and C-peptide(P=0.011 and 0.014) are dependent predictors in over-weight and obesity cases. With the same analysis,HDL-c,TNF-α,TC are dependent predictors of adiponectin in over-weight and obesity cases. Conclusions: the concentrations of resistin in cases with over-weight and obesity are higher , and, there is no correlation between resistin and blood glucose ,blood lipids and insulin, while the concentrations of adiponectin were significant higher in female, and the serum adiponectin concentrations positively correlated with HDL-c in both normal-weight person and over-weight and obesity patients. Age and C-peptide are predictors of resistin and HDL-c,TNF-α,TC are predictors of adiponectin in over-weight and obesity patients.
