A Study Of The Risk Factors Associated With Osteoarthritis Of The Knee In BaiSe Region

Object:To study the risk factors and epidemiological properties associated with osteoarthritis(OA)of the Knee in BaiSe Region.Methods:Collect 392 patients with OA of the Knee and 288 without OA of the Knee(control group)from The First Affiliate Hospital of YouJiang Medical University and YouJiang Mining Affairs Apartment Hospital during the period February 2006 to March 2007.The study was aimed at determining the potential risk factors for OA of the Knee.Inquire and write the dada with the use of a questionaire.The. data obtained was analyzed with SPSS13.0 for window,to investigate the correlation in epidemiological factors of knee osteoarthritisResults:1.People living in High Altitude Regions and Moist-Cold Upland Regions more readily suffer from OA of the Knee(B=0.318,P=0.003 OR=1.374 95%CI=1.110-1.701).2.The time of exposure to Sun-Rays(B=-0.574 OR=0.0563 95%CI =0.366-0.867)has no association with OA of the Knee.3.Labor Intensity(B=0.318 P=0.014 OR=1.332)is associated with OA of the Knee.4.Occupation and Posture especial long-term squatting and manual training or work has an important association with OA of the Knee.5.Regular consumption of vegetables,vegetable oil and tea has a negative association with OA of the Knee.6.OA of the Knee has a considerable association with familial inheritance(B=1.039 OR=2.828 95%CI=2.087-3.832).Familial inheritance is an importantrisk factors of Knee OA.7.BMI is an important factor in OA of the Knee(B=1.042 P=0.000＜0.05 OR=2.785.95%CI=1780.-4.355).Among the males sixty cases(35.3%)had adiposity in Knee OA while this was found in one hundred and twenty cases(51.2%)among the females.8.Ninety-two cases(23.5%)were less than 50 years old.Those older than 50 years old were more likely to suffer from OA of the Knee,with a female to male ratio of 1.45:1.Conclusion:1.Mountain Habitation,Hypothermy Climate and Living Habit Affect the Incidence OA of the Knee in BaiSe Region.2.The Incidence of Knee OA among the People of ZhuangZu is Higher than the People of Non-ZhuangZu in BaiSe Region.3.Occupation,Labor Intensity and Surgical.Trauma are all high risk factors in OA of the Knee.4.Drinking and Eating(Bean,Milk,Oil,Tea,et al)have a certain Associate with OA of the Knee.
