Objectives To evaluate the effect of Neuroform stents in the occlusion of wide-necked intracranial aneurysms.Method 12 patients identified as a wide-necked intracranial aneurysms were evaluated for stent-assisted coiling. Neuroform microdelivery stent system is led into the parent artery.Through the coaxial catheter a stent is placed across the aneurysm neck and subsequent coiling of the sac.The patients were fully heparinized 48 h post-operation and were administered with aspirin 300mg/d and clopidogrel(Plavix)75mg/d orally for one month.Thereafter aspirin 300mg/d was maintained for 6months.Results 9 patients had complete occlusion after deployment of a stent,2 patients with wide-necked carotid artery aneurysm had incomplete occlusion(95%).1 patient with posterior communicating artery aneurysm had vasospasms after deployment of the stent and occlusion was abandoned and treatment diverted to second treatment. After 6 months, neurovascular angiography of 4 of the patients indicated that the aneurysm had disappeared and the parent arteries were free. Conclusion Neuroform stents may overcome technical limitations in current endovascular therapy by improving the occlusion of wide-necked aneurysms while protecting the parent vessel.
