ObjectiveTo study the effects of community rehabilitation on quality of life in patients after stroke.Method222 hemiplegics patients in communities who suffered from stroke were randomly divided into two groups: 112 cases in the rehabilitation group, 110 cases in the control group. Both groups were given health education and measured vital signs. Patients in the control group didn't receive any rehabilitative treatment. Patients in the rehabilitation group were given rehabilitative treatments for ten times by the therapeutist and the rest of the treatments were given by their family members or volunteers who had been trained by the therapeutists. The frequency of the treatments performed by family members or volunteers is one time a day, 45 minutes each time. The evaluation with World Health Organization quality of life assessment instrument brief version of Chinese version was done in pre-treatment, after 2 months and 5 months, respectively. T-test of independent sampler was used to analysis all the scores of the two groups.ResultsAt the end of 2nd and 5th month after grouping, the QOL of patients in both groups had been improved. The improvement of the patients in rehabilitation group was more notable than that in controlled group and the difference is significant (p<0.05). The mean of the difference between the two groups is significant(p<0.01). In rehabilitation group, the improvement of QOL of the patients after stroke who have shorter course of disease is better than that of the patients who have longer course of disease, and the difference was significant(p<0.05). Comparing the score changes at the end of 2nd and 5th month after the beginning of the treatment in the domains of physiology, mental, society and surroundings, there was significant difference(p<0.01)and the score of the rehabilitation group was obviously superior to that in the control group.ConclusionCommunity rehabilitation training on patients after stroke can obviously improve their QOL scores in all domains.
