Objectives Bronchiolitis is a common acute lower respiratory tract infectious disease during infants and young children period, mainly caused by viruses , especially RSV. More and more epidemiological data indicate that children with Bronchiolitis infected by RSV are liable to develop bronchial asthma (to abbreviate Asthma), the incidence is approximately 30%, and it has had the trend of escalation recent years. The aim of our study is to observe the incidence of asthma of bronchitis in the future by 3 to 10 years' follow-up of 280 children with bronchiolitis and analyze the correlation factors to development asthma. And carry on the early intervention and reduce the incidence of asthma of the children with bronchitis. Methods 280 hospitalized children diagnosed bronchitis were chose and treated from January, 1995 to December, 2002 of which 220 male examples, and 60 female examples. The review research and the clinical revisit methods were use to investigate and analyze the examples, whether carrying on the large dose IVIG treatment or not, whether vaccinating BCG vaccine (BCG) according to plan or not, whether having asthma family history and the allergic physique or not, the way of feeding, and so on. Using the SAS8.0 software to carry on statistics processing for all investigation results, and use the Logistic analysis for multi-factor and use four standard table x~2 examinations to examine incidence of asthma of each pair of groups. Results The rate of asthma is 29.29%(82/280), the rate of asthma is related to administering the large dose of IVIG vaccinating BCG vaccine (BCG) according to plan, asthma family history, the allergic physique and the way of feeding,, and so on. The incidence of asthma with large dose of IVIG group is 17.16%, however, the incidence of asthma of control group is 40.41%(p<0. 01). The incidence of asthma of vaccinating BCG vaccine (BCG) according to plan group is 17.04%, lower than the control group obviously (its rate 40.69%)(p<0. 01). The incidence of asthma of allergic physique group is higher than that of non-allergic physique group obviously (39.59% vs. 4.82%)(p<0. 01). Heredity factor is related closely to asthma morbidity, 1, 2 levels of relatives have the asthma family history 189 examples, 74 of them had developed asthma, the incidence of asthma is 39.15%, while, 91 examples without family history, 8 of them had developed asthma, and the incidence of asthma is 8.79%(p<0. 01). The pure mother's milk feeding presents the protective function to asthma occurrence, 21 of 133 examples that feeding the pure mother's milk in 4 months after birth had developed asthma, the incidence of asthma is 15.79%, lower than the mix feeding group (40.70%)and the formula milk feeding group (42.62%)obviously (p<0. 01), while, the difference of incidence between mix feeding group and the formula milk feeding group isn't obviousConclusion Children with bronchiolitis during infants and young children period are liable to develop asthma, however, the children who taking up the large dose of IVIG, not having allergic physique and asthma family history, vaccinated BCG vaccine (BCG) according to plan, and breast-fed in 4 months after birth were less likely to develop asthma. This study implies: allergic physique and asthma family history are high risk factor to development and occurrence of asthma; while, large dose IVIG treatment, vaccinated BCG vaccine (BCG) according to plan and the pure breast-fed take on protection to occurrence of asthma.
