| Objective:To evaluate the clinical efficacy, recurrency and safety of 5%imiquimod cream applied topically after laser therapy in the treatment of condyloma acuminatum(CA).Methods:118 patients with CA were randomly divided into laser control group and combined treatment group.61 patients were treated only by laser therapy(laser control group) and 57 were treated with 5%imiquimod cream,3 times per week for 8 weeks. The cream was applied when the wound was healing after the laser therapy(combined treatment group). The recurrence rates and side effects were observed at month 1,2 and 3.Results:For three months, the cure rate was 82.5%in combined treatment group, and 50.8%in laser control group(P<0.01);the recurrence rate was 17.5%in combined treatment group, and 49.2%in laser control group(P<0.01).At follow-up period of month 1,2 and 3,the recurrence rates in laser control group were 26.2%,14.8%and 8.2%respectively,while the recurrence rates in combined treatment group were 12.3%,3.5%and 1.8%respectively(P<0.005). The local side effect related to the 5%imiquimod cream was 73.7%,including erythema (61.4%),edema(50.9%),erosion(40.4%),itching(35.1%),burning(21.1%)and pain(8.8%). No systemic side effect was found. Conclusion:Treatment with 5%imiquimod cream after laser therapy appears to be a safety and efficacy therapeutic approach in reducing the recurrence of CA. |
