Paulownia Tomentosa (Thunb) Steud is an ornamental plant, widely distribute in many regions of China. Its leaves, flowers, barks, roots, and woods have used as traditional herbal medicine for treatment of some diseases. There is no previous work on the biological activity of its flowers, except for some studies chemical components. In this thesis, We report the systematic studies of biological activity and utilizing of its flowers. On the basis of previous chemical theoretical evidences and pharmacological experiments on verbascoside, the investigation on the extracting craft of verbascoside from the flowers was carried out. The two fractions, ethyl acetate extracts and n-butanol extract, were affirmed as the active parts after the activity evaluation in which antibiotic effect was observed by testing the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) in vitro and anti-inflammatory and antipyetic effects were tested on mice pathologic damage model. By using HPLC-PAD technique, 9 chemical compounds were identified and confirmed in the two active fractions. HPLC technique was developed for the quantitative analysis of the main compounds in the two active fractions. The studies on spray preparation of the biological activity parts including its prescription composing, preparation, quality standard and stability were also carried out.The research results will provide further evidences for exploiting and utilizing traditional Chinese medicine and pharmacological action as a new drug.
