Objective At present, depression have been the second of diseaseburdon in china. It is reported from WHO that it will be the first at causesof disabilty in the world. Depression make a lot of economic expenses, and give more pain to patients and their families. Many factors works inpathogeny and state of an illness of depression including biological andsociapsychological factors. Our studies focus on relationship of lifeevents and personality in patients of depression, and introduce moredeveloped case—controlstudy to explore the effect of related mode oflife events and personality on depression, and the conclusion is senseto prevention, therapy and healing of depression.Methods A cohort of 100 outpatients with depression was assessed onadmission from Tianjin Anding Hospital, Hosipital affiliated chinesetraditional medicine colleage and East hospital of the first centre, from October 2005 to October 2006. The recruiting standard: (1) patientswho first episode or recurrent episode without medincine for two weeks.(2)be accompanied to the diagnostic criteria of depressive episode ofmood disorders in CCMD-3. (3) excluding the patients with the historyof bipolar disorder and manic episode. (4)the index of severity ofdepression was more than 0.5. (5) excluding the serious organicdisease. (6)all subjecs know and agree to the assessments. 100 healthysubjects were assessed and matched with age, gender, marrage andeducation. The assessments included population information, Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS), the Life Events Scale (LES)and Catell 16 Personality Factor Test(16PF). In this study the participants answered the same questionnaire and the same researcher.The datum of study were input computer to description and analysis withSPSSll. 5 for Windows.Result The result were as follow: patients with depression is notdifferent statistically in different gender, age, marriage and educationwith healthy subjects. Patients with depression are differentstatistically in negative life events, the events of work andstudy, B, C, F, H, I, L, O, Q1, Q3, Q4 of 16PF. In patients with depression, Positive life events are significantly related to A, F and H. Negitivelife events are significantly related to E and L. The events of love andfamily are significantly related to E. Besides there is no differencein lifeevents in men and women patients with depression, man patientsare more in E, and Q3, and less in I, M than woman. Unmarried patients facemore events of work and study, E, Q1, and less N than married patients. Youthpatients experience most events of work and study, E, F and H. Middle-aged patients most events of social and others, and least O. Old patientsare most N. Patients of high education experience more events of negative, events of familiy and events of works and study, F, H and Q1.Conclution patients with depression experience more negative lifeevents and the events of work and study. They are more B, I, O, Q1, Q3, andQ4 and less C, F, H, and L. The negative life events acts on paticularpersonality which possiblly effect on the outbreak of depression.patients with depression on life events is not different statisticallyin different gender. But age, marriage and education do effecs on theoutbreak of depression in some degree.
