Objective:To study the serum levels of NO and Insulin-like growth factor-1(IGF-1)in children with EP,and to investigate the roles of these two neurochemistry signal in the pathogenesis and effect on Electroencephalogram(EEG).Methods:The concentration of IGF-1,NO in the serum were determined by utilizing nitrate reductase assay(NA),radioenzyme linked assay(RIA).45 children with EP and 18 normal children was investigated.The epilepsy group was derided randomly into the attack group in the near future(25cases)and the intermission group(20cases).Levels of IGF-1,NO was studied in thress groups and the relationship between two signals and the effect on EEG was studied. Statistical analysis was performed with SPSS 13.0.Results:The levels of NO and IGF-1 in the epilepsy group were higher than the normal group(p<0.01).The serum levels of NO and IGF-1 in the attack group in the near future were significantly higher than the intermission group(p<0.001).The serum levels of NO and IGF-1 in the intermission group were higher than the normal group(p<0.05).NO was correlated positively with IGF-1 in the attack group in the near future and the intermission group.The EEG was improved obviously in intermission group than the near future attack group.Conclusion:NO and IGF-1 involved in the progress of EP and played important roles in epilepsy.The results indicated that the levels of the two neurochemistry signal in the serum in children with EP were higher and existed for a long time.The increasing of NO was mainly to mediate brain injuring and promote EP attacking.The increasing of IGF-1 was mainly to mediate brain protection and restrain EP attacking.There was internal relationship between the levels of IGF-land NO.IGF-1 worked by NO.They were proposed to produce some effect on electroencephalographic waves.Detecting the levels of NO and IGF-1 in venous blood was an effective convenient method and could provide new way to further research for pathogenesy of EP and adjunctive therapy.These was determinated clinical value.
