Objective To evaluate effect of statins on the clinic treatment of patients with CHF through investigating the effect of simvastatin on ET-1 and TNF-αof patients with CHF.Methods The levels of ET-1 and TNF-αwere measured by radioimmunoassay on 60 patients with CHF and 30 healthy subjects as healthy controls. Patients were randomly divided into conventional treatment group(n=31) and simvastatin group(n=29). The conventional treatment included the diuretic,β-blockers, ACE inhibitors and so on. Besides the general treatment, simvastatin 20 mg/d were added to the simvastatin group. The levels were re-measured after 12 weeks. At the same time we measured Left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF)and left ventricular end-diastolic diameter(LVDd) by echocardiography. Results The levels of ET-1 and TNF-αon patients with CHF were significantly higher than those on healthy controls(P<0.01)and the levels of ET-1 and TNF-αdecreased after the treatment in simvastatin group and conventional treatmen group(P<0.05). Compared with conventional treatment group, the levels of ET-1 and TNF-αon simvastatin group were significantly lower(P<0.05). Left ventricular ejection fraction improved(P<0.05) and left ventricular end-diastolic diameter decreased (P>0.05)after the two group treatment. Compared with conventional treatment group Left ventricular ejection fraction on simvastatin group were significantly higher (P<0.05).Conclusion 1,ET-1 and TNF-αare concernd with formation and development of congestive heart failure (CHF); 2,Statins has the function of anti-inflammation and improve endothelial function and the prognosis of CHF.
