Objective: To develop a scale for Liver-Qi Stagnation Syndromeand Live-Fire Ascending Syndrome, then to analyze the data statisticeally and study the clinical value of the scale. Methods: According to the epidemiological investigation, a totalof 240 cases were selected from Xiangya Hospital and the third XiangyaHospital from July 2005 to July 2006. 80 of the patients got the Liver-QiStagnation Syndrome (24 male and 56 female),while the number of thepatients in the control team who got the got liver-qi stagnation andspleen-qi deficiency syndrome was 50 (20 male and 30 female); theLive-Fire Ascending Syndrome cases were 80 and the Live-YangHyperactivity Syndrome patients in the other control team were 30. Usingthe methods of factor analysis, standard deviation, correlation coefficient,Cronbach's alpha, standard stepwise regression and T-test to choiceitems, the scale of the Liver-Qi Stagnation Syndrome for male had 10items, the female's scale attained 14 items, and the Live-FireAscending Syndrome scale attained 14 items. Results: The methods of Principal components factor analysis wasadopted in all the items. The scale of the Liver-Qi Stagnation Syndromefor male could reflect 2 factors which explained 62.546ï¼…of the variationand represented the scale' overall structure. The test-retest reliability ofthe scale and factors ranged from 0.749 to 0.814; The split-half reliabilitywere 0.790 to 0.866;The Chronbach's alpha coefficient were 0.806 to0.848. The scale for female could reflect 3 factors which explained66.731ï¼…of the variation, and it also represented the overall structure ofthe scale. The test-retest reliability of the scale and factors ranged from0.848 to 0.935; The split-half reliability were 0.683 to 0.934; TheChronbach's alpha coefficient were 0.759 to 0.877. The scale forLive-Fire Ascending Syndrome could reflect 3 factors which explained73.066ï¼…of the variation, and it certainly represented the scale's overallstructure. The test-retest reliability of the scale and factors ranged from 0.721 to 0.943; The split-half reliability were 0.708 to 0.810;TheChronbach's alpha coefficient were 0.815 to 0.900.Conclusion: 1. The scale for Liver-Qi Stagnation Syndrome andLive-Fire Ascending Syndrome in which the items were choosed by usingmany kinds of methods provided the reference for the clinicaldifferentiation of symptoms and signs of the syndromes andpenthemerons. 2. The scale for the Liver-Qi Stagnation Syndromewas established for male and female, which preferably reflected thefeature of the syndromes and penthemerons for each gender and furtheraffiuenced the theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine. 3. Both of thescale attained satisfactory validity and reliability, achieving the purpose oforganizing these scales, and could supply a standard scale in the researchof Liver-Qi Stagnation Syndrome and Live-Fire Ascending Syndrome.
