The term "health" is a state of a complete physical, mental, and social wellbeing and not merely the physiology health of someone's body in international. The time in the college is the key period of one's physical and mental maturity. In the modern society with keen competitions, mental perplexes emerge frequently. Mental health status of the college students influences the development of the whole society.A lot of researchers have carried out many relevant studies of the mental health of college students. Most results show that the mental health status of college students is not optimistic. There are many factors, including gender, economics, family and pressure of study, which influences the mental health. More and more concerns are poured on the mental health and education works of college students. Most of these studies concern more about the students of the regular colleges and less about the ones of the junior colleges. With regard to those junior college studens whose educational background are lower than undergraduate students, the employment pressure and society competition environment they faced are more complicated . As to medical college students , because of medical science characteristic, their learning pressur is fairly high, so investigators should pay more attention to their mental health state.A Junior Medical College is located in the east of Henan province , which is a less developed city comparing to other districts in Henan province. The College is not consummated in various aspects since it is a junior medical college updated from a secondary medical school in 2004. The students come from comparatively convergent most of local district of the city although the college enrolls new students from the whole country. The researches of mental health are lack in the college so this study is conducted to understand the basic status and feature of the students in the college. We hope effective interventions to improve the mental health conditions can be found and provide theoretical support to effectively conduct education work of mental health in the college.Materials and Methods419 students in the Medical College were selected using random cluster sampling method. The study contents included SCL-90 questionnaire and self-designed questionnaire of mental health factors in college students. The original datum were input and analyzed by SPSS 13.0. Scores of factors are described asX±S . Analysis of variance (ANOVA) of repeated measurement data was adopted to compare the difference among 10 factors scores. Pearson correlation was used to analyze the correlation among factor scores in 10 fields. Two independent samples means comparison were analyzed by t test. Comparison of k independent samples means were analyzed by One way ANOVA. The influencing factors were analyzed by multiple linear regression. The significant level is 0.05 (two tailed).Results1. The minimum of SCL-90 scores of students in the Medical College was 1.13, the maximum is 2.44, the mean is 1.69. The positive rate of mental problems was 15.3%.2. Compared with the compositive samples of past years, the SCL-90 scores of students in the Medical College were statistically significant except the factor score in hostility factors, among which the factor of crankiness was lower than the compositive sample and other factors were higher than the compositive sample.3. The differences of the scores of ten facors were statistically significant (F=133.429, P=0.001, Huynh-Feldt adjusted, df=6.517). The leading three was coercion, sensitivity of relationship and horror.4. The matrix analysis of scores of different factors shows that they were moderate positive correlation.5. The result of One way ANOVA analysis showed that the most significant factors that influence the SCL-90 mean scores were gender(t=3.190, P=0.002), source of family(t=2.95, P=0.03), economic status(t=5.168, P=0.001), single parent family(t=30.835 , P=0.001), health self-concern(t=3.735 , P=0.001), status of love(t=2.041 , P=0.043), attitude of love (F=18.495 , P=0.001), pressure of study(t=7.884, P=0.001), relationship with other students(t=2.207, P=0.001) and harmonious condition of family(F=6.881, P=0.001). The result of multiple linear regression showed that the significant order of these factors was pressure of study, relationship with other students, source of family, attitude of love, status of love and single parent family.Conclusions1. The mental health level of students in the Medical College is lower than the average level of those in the whole country.2. The most significant symptoms of mental health of the students in the Medical College are coercion, sensitivity of relationship and horror.3. The most significant influence factors of the mental health of the students in the Medical College are pressure of study, relationship with other students, source of family, attitude of love, status of love and coming from single parent family.4. It is suggested that the emphasis of education work should be put to the students from rural areas and a comprehensive education to a range of issues like interpersonal relationship, pressure of study and attitude of love.
