Objective:1. To compare the personal and parental socio-economic-status (SES) of first admission with schizophrenia and patients without psychosis in order to identify whether low SES in cases is a consequence of the illness process or is a familial risk factor. 2.Examined whether there has a interrelationship between schizophrenic subtype and parental SES. 3.To investigate parental rearing pattern ,family environment of patients with schizophrenia. 4.To investigate the relationship between parental SES and parental rearing pattern ,family environment.Method: Case-control study, evaluate 111 schizophrenic patients come from the three largest psychotic institution of Gansu province by self-made questionary, PANSS scale, EMBU scale, Fes-CV scale. All patients were also diagnosed by CCMD-3 standards. 111 individually time- age- and gender-matched patients without psychosis were chosen as control A. 111 individually time- age- and gender-matched normal people were chosen as control B. Investigate SES of control A, compare the personal and parental marital status, career, education, Income; number of siblings of cases and control A. categorize cases by PANSS scale to type I and type II, Compare whether their parental income is not same. SES indicators measured in the year prior to admission. Compare the parental rearing pattern and family environment of cases and control B. Analyses whether there has a correlation between parental rearing pattern and parental SES, family environment and parental SES.Results: 1.The cases and control A has same SES, we conclude no difference between personal career, education, income of cases and control A. 2.compared to control A, cases were more likely to be single, but their parental marital status has no significant difference. 3. The cases and control A has different parental SES. And compare to control A, increased risk was associated with mother's well career and father's higher income. 4.There is a propensity that type II schizophrenia to be elevated among the people whose parental income is lower. 5.In the investigation of EMBU scale and Fes-CV scale, compare to the normal controls, cases' scores of factors of the parents' emotional warmth and comprehend is lower, cases' scores of factors of the parents' refuse and deny is higher, over intervention and partialness of mother is lower, cases' scores of factors of the cohesion, emotion expression, knowledge, entertainment is lower. 6.There is a positive correlation between father's education and father's refuse and deny; father's education and father's over intervention and partialness; mother's education and mother's refuse and deny; mother's income and mother's over intervention and partialness; father's education and family knowledge; mother's education and family knowledge; mother's education and family entertainment; mother's income and family control. There is a negative correlation between father's career and father's refuse and deny; mother's education and mother's emotional warmth and comprehend; mother's career and mother's over intervention and partialness;Conclusion: Compare to patients without psychosis, increased risk of first admission of schizophrenia was associated with mother's well career and father's higher income. Little evidence that low SES increase the risk of schizophrenia. There had many problems in the parental rearing pattern and family environment of schizophrenia. Parental SES had some correlation with the parental rearing pattern and family environment, may be they two play a mediator role in parental SES and schizophrenia.
