Objective To evaluate the therapeutic effect of SKY-percutaneous kyphoplasty as a treatment of low back pain. Methods In a retrospective study, the therapeutic effect of SKY-percutaneous kyphoplasty in 7cases (9 centrums ) of low back pain was analyzed.Compared the patient's pain, the anterior/middle/posterior-height of every operative centrum, the angle of kyphoscoliosis before and after the operation. Results The quantity of injected polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) of each centrum was 3ml to 6ml with the average 4. 12ml. The anterior (13.04 ± 3. 72mm) and the middle(15.44 ± 5. 25mm) parts of the operative centrum were significantly (P<0. 05) higher than they were before surgery (18.41 ±3. 77mm and 22.48 ±2. 88mm). Surgery corrected the angle of kyphoscoliosis 11° to 24° , with the average of 18.7° .All patients had pain released in first 24h after surgery. Three of the patients had pain released completely in 24h, and five in 48h. However, two of the patients still had some very slight pain after 48h. (VAS<3).0nly one patient had it's pain released completely until the sixth day after surgery. Others all had pain released completely within four days. The rate of pain release postoperation was 100%. Patients werevisited after surgery between 3 weeks to 16 month,no one complained had any pain aftery SKY-PKP. Conclusion SKY-PKP is a kind of minimally invasive surgery, using PMMA to reconstruct the compressed centrum, destroy the regional nerval system, and finally cure the pain.It is a mini-invasive and effective therapy of low back pain caused by compressed fracture of osteoporosis or tumor. |
