Objective To explore the effects of short-term insulin intensive treatment on islet B cell function and insulin sensitivity in newly-diagnosed type 2 diabetics with severe hyperglycemia. Methods Twenty-one newly-diagnosed type 2 diabetic patients with fasting blood glucose (FBG)≥11.1mmol/L were treated by short-term insulin intensive treatment for 2 weeks, Fasting blood glucose(FBG), fasting insulin (FINS) ,FINS/FBG, the fasting serum proinsulin(PI), PI/FINS , area under curve of glucose (AUCg), area under curve of insuIin(AUCi),area under curve of C-peptide(AUCcp), AUCi/AUCg, AUCcp/AUCg , The ratio of the first 30-min increase in insulin to glucose concentrations following the oral glucose tolerance test (ΔI30'/ΔG30') , CP30', CP30'/G30; Homa-B cell function index(HBCI) and Homa insulin resistance index (Hama-IR), fasting serum free fatty acids (FFA),fasting serum tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α)and C-reactive protein( CRP) were measured and compared between per-treatment and post- treatment .Result After 2 weeks of the treatment,1) the FBG and AUCg were significantly decreased(P<0.01 ),2) the FINS and AUCi were significantly increased ( P < 0.05 ) ; the FINS/FBG,AUCcp, AUCins/AUCg, AUCcp/AUCg and HBCI were significantly increased (P<0.01); 3) theΔI30'/ΔG30'were significantly increased (P< 0.05); the CP30'and CP30'/G30were significantly increased (P<0.01) 4) the fasting serum PI and PI/FINS were significantly increased (P<0.01) 5) Hama-IR were significantly decreased (P<0.05), 6) the serum FFA were...
