For studying the antagonistic effects and mechanisms of Compound Danggui powders, the chronic fluorosis model was reproduced in Wistar rats by given normal tap water contained with fluorine and the Compound Danggui powders were administered simultaneously by per os in regular interval. The damage of teeth among different groups were observed, as well as the activity of Superoxide Dismutase(SOD)and Glutathion Peroxidase (GSH-Px), the content of Malonaldehyde(MDA) in serum was determined by ultraviolet spectrophotometry. The contents of fluorine in plasma, urine and dung of rats were detected by using the fluorionion selective electrode method. All of indices mentioned above in plasma, liver and kidney as well as the total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and the fluorine content of bone in chronic fluorosis rats were detected for studying the effects of Compound Danggui powders on the chronic fluorosis. The results showed that the evident dental damages were appeared in chronic fluorosis rats and also some lipid peroxidation damages were existed in kidney. The antioxidase capacity of liver showed compensatory reinforcement in different periods of experiment, visible fluorine accumulation was presented in plasma, liver, kidney and bone of rats, the excretion of fluorine in urine and dung were increased markedly. However, Compound Danggui powders can obviate and delay the occurrence of dental damages caused by fluorine, enhance the total antioxidant capacity (TAC) of rats, and can adjust the capacity of oxidation an anti-oxidation system in rats while also can inhibit the absorption of fluorine in gastrointestinal tract, and increase the excretion of fluorine in dung.
