Objective To explore the fluorine in the drinking-water and dental fluorosis of children and provide scientific evidence for Endemic Fluorosis prevention and control in Fuyang city, Anhui Province.Methods Tests were conducted in 4,064 administrative villages in 5 counties and 3 districts in Fuyang city. 20, 309 samples of drinking water were tested for the concentration of fluorin, which were from the east, south, west, north and center of each administrative village. Among 550, 223 registered 8-12 year old children and 203, 871 were diagnosed for dental fluorosis. The water defluoridation sites were surveyed in order to test the drinking water for concentration of fluorin. All data was input into a Excel database by full-time staff, and SPSS (14.0 version) was used to analyse for Chi-square, relation and t test.Results Among the 20, 309 drinking water samples, 4, 629 exceed the stipulated standards, accounting for 22.8%. The average value of 848 administrative villages was over the standards among 4,064 administrative villages, and the rate was 20.9%. The fluoride content ranged between 0 to 4.07mg/L among the 20, 316 drinking water samples. The fluoride content of drinking water in Taihe county and Jieshou city was higher than others, with an average value of 1.03±0.29 and 1.02±0.29, respectively. In Taihe county, the average valve between 1 and 2mg/L, and 2 and 4 mg/L was 47.3% and 2.21%, respectively, and 46.30% and 1.64%, respectively, in Jieshou city. Among the 203, 871 children aged 8-12, the incidence of dental fluorosis was 38, 737, or 19.0%. The incidence of dental fluorosis was 45.3% and 41.9%, respectively, in Taihe county and Jieshou city, which was significantly higher than others (χ~2=27088.47,P=0.000). The dental fluorosis exponential was 0.40 in Fuyang city, and it was higher in Taihe county and Jieshou city, where it was 0.88 and 0.86, respectively. The detected rate of dental fluorosis in children aged 8-12 was significantly related to the average value of fluoride content of drinking water in administrative villages level by Pearson analysis (N=4064,r=0.042,P=0.000) . The method of water improving for defluoridate was carried out in Fuyang city, and low fluorosis drinking water was selected to become a center water source for residents. But the prevention and control levels for Endemic fluorosis were negative. Besides the 40 centers water source in Funan county and the 11 centers were used normally, all the water-improving and defluoridate projects couldn't go normally.Conclusions In general, the Endemic fluorosis was middling in Fuyang city, But the Taihe County and Jieshou city were serious. It is imperative for Endemic fluorosis for prevention and control. It requires a significant about of time and effort to control Endemic fluorosis. It is very important to recognize the situation, change the present status, and strengthen the cooperation between multi-sector departments for the future work of the endemic fluorosis in Fuyang city.
