Background: Hyperglycemia during acute stroke was common, but the fluctuation and influencing factors of blood glucose, the relationship between blood glucose and prognosis and the management of blood glucose remained uncertain.Objectives: To observe the fluctuation of blood glucose in hyperglycemia patients; to determine the influencing factors of glucose level at admission; to analyze the relationship between admission hyperglycemia and clinical outcomes; to provide clinical evidence for the trials of blood glucose management in acute stroke.Materials and methods: We prospectively registered consecutive cases of acute stroke within 24 hours of symptom onset at the neurological wards of the west china hospital, Sichuan University from 2002/Mar/01 to 2006/Mar/01. Admission random blood glucose and its influencing factors and other clinical characteristics during hospitalization related to the outcome were collected.
