[Background] In recent years, epidemiological studies have shown that the occurrence of atrophic glossitis among old people is 5.8%, ranking third in oral mucosal lesions of old generation . 26.6% male and 37% female of the old people in hospital are suffering atrophic glossitis respectively (atrophic area over 50%). Its clinical manifestation includes tongue pain at eating, burning mouth, taste loss, decreased salivary secretion, dry mouth and chapped lips, which affect gulp, eating and other oral functions. Its correlated pathogenic factors have been publicly recognized, such as anemia, nicotinic acid in short, Sjogren syndrome, fungal infection etc. The relationship between oral flora imbalance and tongue disease has been concerned gradually by researchers.[Purpose] To exam the flora samples from the dorsum of the atrophic glossitis group and the control group, to analyze the conditions of aeromicrobe and micro-aeromicrobe, to discuss the relativity between flora in tongue dorsum and atrophic glossitis so as to provide a thinking pattern for therapy and a clue for deeper research.[Methods] To collect personal information on 60 cases of atrophic glossitis and 40 cases of volunteers and then to tabulate it.
