To explore whether 5-HTTLPR polymorphism was associated with the morbidity of depressive disorder and the serious degree of depressive symptoms in the individuals with stressful experience.Method:In 115 patients with breast cancer, the morbidity of depressive disorder and the serious degree of depressive symptoms were assessed with CCMD-3, DSM-â…£ criteria and Hamilton Depression Rating Scale(HAMD). A questionnaire made by ourselves, Life Event Scale (LES), Coping Styles Questionnaire, Social Support Rating Scale were adopted to measure the social- psychological characteristics of breast cancer patients. At the same time, Polymerase Chain Reaction technique was used to detect the polymorphism of 5-HTTLPR in 115 breast cancer patients and 51 female controls.Result:(1) The morbidity of depressive disorder in breast cancer patients was 45.2%. Logistic regression and multiple stepwise regression analysis showed that there were four factors that had close relationship with depressive disorder and the serious degree of depressive symptoms. They were 5-HTTLPR polymorphism, the relationship among family members, the fantasy score of coping style, the total score of social support. Among the 4 factors, 5-HTTLPR polymorphism influenced most on both the morbidity of depressive disorder and the serious degree of depressive symptoms. Harmonious relationship among family members was protective factor. The morbidity of depressive disorder and the serious degree of depressive symptoms were positively related to fantasy score of coping style, and negatively related to total score of social...
