Objective To identify and compare the evaluation of the stressors present in the intensive care unit(ICU) from the point of the patients, relatives and their nurses who care the patients; to determine the stress response of the patients of their psychology and their behavior. And evaluate the reliability and the validity of "ICUESS" in Chinese patients.Method1. Sample 50 of inpatients, 50 of their respective relatives and nurses who directly care these patients were studied. Data collecting was conducted in the ICU of Qilu Hospital from March to October 2005. The patient, relative and nurse were expected to fulfill the following criteria: the patient must be (a) conscious and alert, (b) admitted to the ICU for more than 72h, (c) aged 18 or older and (d) consent to participate in the study. The family members were expected to fulfill the following criteria: (a) be a first degree relative of the patient interviewed, (b) having visited the patient at least once during the current admission, (c) be aged 18 or older, (d) having the ability of reading and (e) consent to participate in the study. For the nurse, the following criteria were requested: (a) to care the patient at least consecutive two days, (b) working in ICU at least for three months, (c) to consent to participant in the study.2.
