BackgroundSquamous cell carcinoma is one of common cutaneous malignant tumors. Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma shows recently increasing tendency in incidence. To improve treatment and diagnosis of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma, the study is needed to elucidate its genetical, pathological, and cellular and molecular biological aspects. Studies have shown that abnormal control of cell cycle progression is a significant Characteristic of malignant tumors. p27kip1 is a cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor which newly discovered. It is closely associated with cell cycle regulation. Finally, p27kip1 arrests the cell cycle in the G1 phase by inhibiting the activity of kinase complexes. p27kip1 is a tumor suppressor gene.Reduced expression of p27kip1 is correlated with the development.degree differentiation, invasion, metastasis, poor prognosis of malignant tumors, and can be an indicator of malignant tumors.
