Objective:Through this experiment, we can state the mechanism and function in simple obesity by traditional Chinese medicine shanhuaqingshen san.Methods:100 wistar healthy male rats were used in the experiment. They were divided into two groups: 20 rats belonged to normal control group, the others belonged to model control group. Normal control group was fed with normal diet, model control group was fed with high caloricity and high fat diet. After inducing obesity successfully, we divided the model control group into obesity model group, herbal therapy low dose group, herbal therapy high dose group and western medicine group. Shan hua qing shen san was given to the herbal therapy dose group, sibutramine was given to western medicine group. And physilolgical saline was given to Normal control group and obesity model group. In the experiment period, no change was made on diet. The weight was measured every week. At the end of the tenth week, the weight, length, Lee's index were calculated;the level of serum Lep, Glu and Ins was detected;and the microstructural changes of belly adipose tissue and Leptin expression of adipose cells were observed.Result:1. Weight, Length and Lee's indexAfter inducing obesity successfully, the weight and Lee's index of the obesity model group and all treatment groups were significantly higher than the normal control group. There is no significant length difference among treatment groups. But all thetreatment can decrease the weight, Lee's index.2. Glu, Ins and LepThe level of Glu, Ins, Lep in obesity model group and treatment groups is significantly higher than normal control group. The level of Glu, Ins, Lep in all treatment groups is lower than obesity model group.Herbal therapy high dose group is better than the other two treatment groups. No significantly difference exists between western medicine group and herbal therapy low dose group.3. Lep expression of adipose cellsLep expression of adipose cells in obesity model is significantly stronger than normal control group. The expression in treatment groups is weaker than obesity model. No difference shows between treatment groups.4. Microstructural changes of belly adipose tissueAll the treatment groups can restrain the growth of belly adipose cells.Conclusion :Shan hua qing shen san can lower obesity rats' Lee's index, serum Lep, Ins, Glu, weaken the Lep expression of adipose cells, restrain the growth of belly adipose cells. Shan hua qing shen san has an important effects on reducing weight and fat in experimental rats without obvious adverse reactions.
