Lung cancer is one of the most common carcinoma and its mortality is the highest in China. The therapy of Lung cancer by TCM or combination of TCM and westen medicine is Chinese character and embody the superiority of TCM.Using prospective and retrospective method, we researched the TCM syndromes of the incipient non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC) patients that hadn't make operation, radiotherapy, chemotherapy. We observed the changes of traditional Chinese syndromes between before and after the operation and chemotherapy on NSCLC patients. The results of the study are as the follows:(1) The main TCM syndromes of NSCLC include qi deficiency and phlegm dampness, qi deficiency and phlegm heat, phlegm heat and qi stagnation and blood stasis, deficiency of both the qi and yin, yin deficiency and phlegm heat, yang deficiency and phlegm dampness. Their proportion are separately 30 percent, 32.9 percent, 15.1 percent, 13.4 percent, 4.8 percent, 3.8 percent of the whole.(2) The TCM syndromes have significant differences among the clinical stages. In clinical I stage, phlegm heat and qi stagnation and blood stasis, qi deficiency and phlegm dampness, qi deficiency and phlegm heat are the main syndromes. In clinical II stage, qi deficiency and phlegm dampness, qi deficiency and phlegm heat are the main syndromes. In clinical III stage, qi deficiency and phlegm heat, qi deficiency and phlegm dampness are the main syndromes. In clinical IV stage, deficiency of both the qi and yin, qi deficiency and phlegm dampness, qi deficiency and phlegm heat are the main syndromes.(3) Before chemotherapy the main TCM syndromes are qi deficiency and phlegm heat, qi deficiency and phlegm dampness. After the first chemotherapy, qi deficiency and phlegm dampness syndrome increases obviously. After two chemotherapies, yang deficiency andphlegm dampness syndrome also increases, but qi deficiency and phlegm heat syndrome decreases. Before chemotherapy the tongue are often dark red, dull, and the tongue coating are yellow greasy, white greasy, white thin. After chemotherapy, dull tongue and white greasy tongue coating increase evidently, but dark red tongue and yellow greasy tongue coating decrease. The above illuminates that the first chemotherapy damages the spleen and stomach, and due to Dampness. After several chemotherapies, Spleen Yang is injuried.(4) Before operation the main TCM syndromes are qi deficiency and phlegm heat, phlegm heat and qi stagnation and blood stasis.,qi deficiency and phlegm dampness. After operation qi deficiency and phlegm dampness syndrome increases, but qi deficiency and phlegm heat syndrome, phlegm heat and qi stagnation and blood stasis syndrome, yin deficiency and phlegm heat syndrome reduce. Before operation the complexion are often black, white, yellow. After operation white and yellow complexion enhance obviously, however red, black and normal complexion all lessen. Before operation the tongue are often dull and whitish, and the tongue coating are white greasy, white thick and white thin. After operation, dull tongue, whitish tongue, white greasy tongue coating and white thick increase evidently, but light red tongue, red tongue and white thin tongue coating decrease. The foregoing shows that the operation also injuries the spleen and stomach, and due to Dampness.Conclusions:(1) Qi deficiency is the intrinsic basic factor during the developing process. Phlegm, qi stagnation and blood stasis are the main pathological changes.(2) The excessive syndrome is the mian TCM syndrome in the early stage of the NSCLC, and the excessive and deficiency syndrome is also appear. In Metaphase, the main TCM syndrome is the excessive and the deficiency syndrome. In advanced stage, there are often deficiency syndrome or the excessive and deficiency syndrome.(3) The first chemotherapy or operation can decrease phlegm heat syndrome, but increase qi deficiency and phlegm dampness syndrome. And several chemotherapies later, yang deficiency and phlegm dampness syndrome increases.(4) We can give TCM preventative treatment, that is to say adding some herbs of replenishing qi and invigorating the spleen before the chemotherapy and operation. And we also can add some herbs of warming yang and replenishing qi after several chemotherapies. The study discussed the TCM syndrome characteristic of NSCLC and the changing regularity between before and after chemotherapy or operation. It provided the whole idea for clinical diagnosis and treatment, moreover it helped to improve the curative effect by combination of TCM and westen medicine.
