Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is a highly aggressive malignant tumor with high incidence in both man and woman,and the median survival time is 2~4 moons.SCLC is highly sensitive to chemoradiotherapy,the initial effe-ctive rate to chemoradiotherapy can reached to 80%-90%,whereas,we often found that the recurrence of neoplasm and multiple ogan metastasis,therefore the three-year survival rate is less than 5%.PAX (the paire box) is a gene family of encoding nuclear transcription factors that related with growth of organs and differentiation of issue in the development of embryo. PAX-5 gene is a member of PAX gene family,it encodes B cell specific activator protein, for short, BSAP or PAX-5,the BASP is a trans-transcription factors that is located in the nucleus.PAX-5 protein can express circumscribed in lymphatic and hematogenic organs,such as:Lymph node-. tonsil and spleen,nonexpression in other tissures and organs,only expressed in patients of solid tumors and Leukaemia.PAX-5 plays a important role in the growths development and differ-entiation and some literatures shown that the expression ratio of PAX-5 (BASP) in SCLC reached 79%.Other studies shown that the BASP had a high expression in SCLC and LCLC,whereas non-expression in non-small lung cancer(NSCLC)and other lung neoplasm(for instance:typical carcinoids,TCs,atypical carcinoids,ACs),and it have a wide application in the pathological diagnosis of lymphoma and SCLC.Heideman DA et al have already proved that transcription factors c-Met which was encoded by proto-oncogene c-Met have some connection with vascularization of tumor,and it was crucial in the induction of vascularization. The related studies overseas had shown that PAX-5 can upregulate the expression of transcriptional factor c-Met in SCLC,moreover it has Synergy effect with c-Met and can accelerate the proliferation differentiation migration and invasion of neoplasm cells through a series of Signal transduction pathway, PAX-5 may be a endangered Species to the prognosis of SCLC.To make clear that if PAX-5 has negative influence to the prognosis of SCLC,89 cases of from June 2007 to June 2009 who had been made a decisive diagnosis through pathology and immunohistochemistry in department of respiratory,the thoracic surgery and haematological oncology in China and Japan Union Hospital of JiLin University,they all had been stained with PAX-5 (BASP).Analyzing the age,sex,smoking history,typing,degree of differentiation,clinical stages,surgical excision,chemotherapy,radiation therapy,performance status and PAX-5,with stata (10.0) software.firstly,making univariate survival rate estimation to the prognosis factor with Kaplan-Meier survival analysis and testing univariate survival rate estimation with Log-Rank test.the result suggests:degree of differentiatio,clinical stages,Surgical excision chemotherapy,radiation therapy,perfor-mance status (PS) and PAX-5 have a relationgship with prognosis of SCLC,but the age,sex,smoking history,typing were not statistically different. Finally, substitute the significant factors in the Cox' proportional hazard model according to level P<0.1,we can make a conclusion that degree of differentiation clinical stages,performance status (PS) and PAX-5 were risk factors (RR)>l,they can raise the relative risk of death,Surgical excision,chemotherapy,radiation therapy were the protective factors,they can decrease the relative risk of death.Consequently,the patients whose PAX-5 positive in immunohistochemistry have poor prognosis,which was in accordance with presentation of Results interrelated overseas.
