To evaluate the effects of transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) for the patients with middle and advanced stages hepatic carcinoma who were unable to perform the operation and influence factors. Method: TACE were performed in 60 patients with middle and advanced stages of hepatic carcinoma who were not suitable for operation via femoral artery catheterization with Seldinger's technique. After treatment we observed the survival rate tumor sizes and value of AFP in blood following up a case by regular visits to two years later period to perform the operation. Result: Most patient among 60 patients improve their symptom after transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE), life quality obviously improves as a result. Among them The tumour size of 32 patients diminute in various degree after TACE.Among them the tumour size of 2 patients totally disappears. Shrink above 50% more than 11. It is lower than 50% 19 to shrink, there are 15 cases who have not obvious changes. Following up a case by regular visits for 24 months, 43 cases of death, among them 33die of liver function failure, 8 cases of metastasis of cancer and upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage, 1 die of liver tumour body broken to bleed, 1 die of acute cholecystitis. More than 29 people survive for more than one year, survival rate of 1-year is 47.5% approximately, 18 people survive more than two years, The survival rate of two year is about 29.5%.
