Objective: To study the relationship between serum androgen and Atherosclerosis in males, through the study of the changes of androgen and intima-media thickness of the carotid wall on men with coronary artery disease, and of the influence on serum lipoprotein, serum glucose and insulin, which has been done by the coronary arteriography. Methods : According to the degree of the artery pathology changes after arteriography. we divide the 134 cases of male patients in hospital into four groups: single coronary artery disease group (n=30), double vessel disease group(n=33), triple vessel disease group(n=28), and the normal group (n=43), All the cases are checked for the serum androgen(TT, FT, DHEA), serum lipoprotein (TC v TG, LDL-C, HDL-C, LPa), fasting blood glucose(FBG), Fasting insulin(FIU) level, and intima-media thickness (IMT) of the carotid wall by ultrasound.Results:1, Compared with the control group, the coronary artery disease groups had significant increase on serum TC, LDL-C, LPa, FIU, FBG and IMT(P<0.05), while they have a significant decrease on serum HDL-C, FT (P<0.001);and there's no obvious difference on TG, TT, DHEA(P>0.05). 2, Each coronary artery disease subgroup, compared with the control group, have significent increase on serum LPa, LDL-C (P<0.05, P<0.001, respectively);and serum TC in the double vessel disease group and triple vessel disease group is significant higher than the control group(P<0.05), while the serum HDL-C is significant lower (P<0.05);There's no obvious difference in serum TG among the four groups (P>0.05). 3, As for serum FT, there is significant difference among the four groups (P<0.001), but no difference among the coronary artery disease subgroups (P>0.05);As for IMT, there is significant difference between each coronaryartery disease group and the control group( PO.001), and between the single vessel disease group and double vessel disease group (PO.01), and between the single vessel disease group and triple vessel disease group ( PO.001);As for serum FILL There are significant diffenrnces in double vessel disease and triple vessel disease group vs control group (PO.001), The significant diffenrnces are also in the the single vessel group vs" control group, and in the double vessel disease group vs the triple vessel disease group ( p<0.05);serum FBG is significant lower in control group than in triple vessel disease group( PO.01);4^ IMT and serum FILK LDL-C> LPa are obvious positive correlation (r>0.5, PO.001), IMT and serum FT ^ HDL-C are obvious negative correlation(r<-0.5, PO.001) in the pearson relative analysis .Conclusion: The intima-media thickness (IMT) of the carotid artery in the cases with coronary artery disease was thicker than that in normal group. The serum free androgen level in men with coronary artery disease was obviously lower than that with normal coronary artery. Free androgen takes part in the formation of the coronary atherosclerosis in males by influencing the blood lipoprotein> blood glucose and the resistance of the insulin. So we could get such conclusion: the decrease of the FT level could be one of the risk factors for the atherosclerosis in males.
