Objective:To observe the correlation between serum calcium leve l and carotid artery intima-media thickness(IMT)in type 2 diabetic(T2DM)patients.Methods:Totally 213 patients with T2 DM and 90 healthy control s were choosed from the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medi cal University.Serum calcium,phosphorus,fasting blood sugar,glycat ed hemoglobin,blood lipid,uric acid and other biochemical indicator s were measured in each group.Carotid IMT was determined by col or Doppler ultrasonography.They were divided into normal group,ca rotid intima-media thickening group and carotid atherosclerosis plaque formation group.Results:The serum calcium level in T2 DM patients group was hi gher than that in healthy control group(P<0.05).In T2 DM patients,the serum calcium level in the plaque group was higher than that i n the thickening group(P<0.05)and the normal group(P<0.05),an d the serum calcium level in the thickening group was higher than that in the normal group(P<0.05).Multiple regression analysis show ed that carotid IMT was positively correlated with serum calcium(B=0.715,P<0.05).The area under ROC curve(AUC)of working cha racteristic curve of subjects with carotid atherosclerosis predicted by s erum calcium level in T2 DM patients was 0.752,95% CI:0.685-0.818,the optimal cut-off was 2.302 mmol/L pruduced a good sensitivity(69.1%)and specifificity(76.7%),the positive predictive value was76.0%,and the negative predictive value was 69.9%.Conclusion:In patients with T2 DM,the level of serum calcium i s related to the increase of carotid IMT.With the increase of blood calcium,the degree of carotid atherosclerosis in T2 DM patients incre ases.
