Disinfection by-products (DBP), caused by free chlorine disinfection, are considered to be a serious threat to people's health and catch more and more attention of world these years. The purpose of this paper is to guarantee the security of water quality when it runs through the distribution networks. Takes the water supply system of a northern university as object, a systemic and profound work on the prediction and control of DBP is done in this paper.Base on the sufficient research of DBP formation mechanics and DBP effect factors, a water quality-measuring scheme is formulated, associating the practice of water supply system of the northern university. Water quality information is obtained by on-site monitoring and library measuring of thirdays duration to the six sampling points of network. The result of water quality measuring indicates that water quality of water supply system meets the standard of drinking water in the gross, while some water-quality index, such as turbidity and free chloride, of several sampling points overrun. The reasons of water quality over-level are analyzed and then the corresponding control measures are represented.This research selects trihalomethanes, the representative substance of DBP, as prediction objective. Tow prediction models are innovatively established by multivariate regression analysis and artificial neural networks (ANN) , respectively. In the process of model building, data analysis tool SAS and numerical simulation tool MATLAB are adopted to solve and certificate the model. As to the result of application, both models have a satisfactory effect, and can be used to the prediction of practical water supply system.The necessity of water-quality prediction is stressed in the paper. Further more, base on the existing state of the water supply system, specific control measures are explored, which include water source control, adopting alternative disinfectant and improving the administration quality of pipe network.Thus far, the complete investigation about the prediction and control of DBPin water supply system is accomplished, which can help guiding experience and improving water quality.
