Abstract/Summary:
Objective: In order to explore the related family behavior factorswhich affect children's simple obesity, the influence of obesity tochildren psycholygy growth and the relations of obese children'stemperament and self-concept and social adaptability, And all thesehave provided theoretical foundation to the prevention of children'ssimple obesity and the formalation psychological interventionmeasures. Material and methods: By using self-made questionaire of childbasic condition, temperament questionaire for children aged 8-12,Piers-Harris children's self-concept scale and Infants-Junior middleschool students' social-life abilities scale, A total of 88 simple obesechildren were surveyed. Their family behaviors characteristics,temperamental characteristics, self-concept levels and abilities ofsocial living were tested and analyzed. Also we have compared 88normal weight healthy children of the same age and homogeneity. Result: 1. Some factors were dangerous to children's obesity Forexample, the parent's understanding to obesity is insufficient, parentslike the sweets and oil-fried food, the reward by the snack frequently,the artificially feeds during the infancy, the children's Tv-viewing timeeveryday is too long and children like overeating and overdrinking andso on. All these factors possibly affect the occurrence anddevelopment of children's obesity. The interaction between children'stemperamental characteristics and environment was also theinfluential factor of obesity. Their maladaptive ralation will cause thedager of the increasing of obesity. 2 the simple obesity children'stemperaments were much different from that of the contrast group(P<0.05), the percentage of passive temperament such as difficulttemperament of the obesity children was distinctly higher than that ofthe contrast group. there were remarkable differences intemperamental dimension of approach-with-drawal, quality of mood,distractibility and threshold of reaction(P<0.05). in obese children,approach-with-drawal were stronger, quality of mood were higher,distractibility and the threshold of reaction were lower. 3. the simpleobesity children's self-concept level were much different from that ofthe contrast group (P<0.05), obese children's self-concept scores werelower than that of the contrast group except for the level ofanxiousness. obese children's self-concept were damaged, they hadlow evaluation to themselves. They didn't get on well with others andtheir feelings of happiness and satisfaction were even worse. 4. thesocial adaptabilities of simple obesity children were lower than that ofthe normal weight children (P<0.05), their abilities of living and socialcommunication were low, they relied on their parents excessively. 5the level of self-concept in simple obese children was highercorrelated to their temperament characteristics than in contrast group,and the relativity between social adaptability and temperamentalcharacteristics was not remarkable in both groups.Conclusion: All these findings showed that, bad-behaviors of thefamily were dangerous factors to children's simple obesity in theirchildhood. Parent's attitude to children obesity, the inclination to thediet and the feeding method palyed very important role in theoccurance and development of obesity. We must take family asfoundation to prevent and cure the obesity. and we must make full useof the power of the family members, establish scientific reasonalfamily environment and diet behavior. simultaneously, we shouldunderstand children's temperamental characteristics. we must try ourbest to adapt to children's individual temperament in the education andalso we must enhance their strong points and avoid weaknesses. Andcoordinate the environment with children's temperament in a goodcondition. We should creat a tolerant understanding and the careatmosphere for obese children, having a mental hygiene educations tothem. And exercise opportunities must be provided for them, let theobese child face up to themselves. enhance their abilities of living andsocial communication and make them develop health fully.
