Objective: To develop a reliable and valid Job Satisfaction Questionnaire for Community Health Institution Employees as an instrument of measurement in an efficient management of community health institutions.Methods: The theory construction was put forward on the base of job satisfaction definition from Organizational Behavior. Before the item pool formed, job satisfaction questionnaires had been extensively consulted and ideas and suggestions from nominal group had been adapted. 293 employees in community health institutions had been interviewed in the study (availability 98.0%). Analyzing the items in the questionnaire was based on comprehensive consideration with the response rate, critical rate value; disperse trend, correlation analysis, and factors analysis. Items reserved from the Job Satisfaction Questionnaire for Community Health Institution Employees-Prior Test Version (CHIEJSQ). The reliability and validity of the questionnaire were also tested.Results: 30 of 38 items were retained. CHIEJSQ consisted of 30 items and 6 factors, which are the leading and management, the training and promotion, personal relationships, working conditions, pay and welfare, the job itself. Cronbach's a coefficient and split-half reliability coefficient of CHIEJSQ were 0.893 and 0.914. 6 common factors were extracted and the cumulative variance was 61.228%. Factor loading and structure accorded with the contents of CHIEJSQ. Correlation among items in the same factor were stronger than among different factors. The validity of the CHIEJSQ was supported by the results from independent analysis of community health institutions in different areas. Conclusion: The CHIEJSQ was reliable and valid.
