| Qxidative stress in body is the most irnportant constituents of protective system. However, it damages proteins and nucleic acids of body through oxidative radicals. Patients with viral infection are in abnormal oxidative stress that is high oxidative and low anti-oxidative state. Cellular immunity in these patients decrease so virus replication can't be inhibited Qxidative stress and cellular immunity affect each other in a virus-infected patient The state is helpful to virus replication and contributes to the chronic course . The high recurrence rate and long course of genital herpes maybe are related to oxidative stress and cellular immunity of patients. Qxidative stress and cellular immunity were detected in 67 patients with genital herpes and 20 normal controls, Conclusions: 1.Oxidative stress in patients are abnormal ,exactiy, superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity in the serum was significantly decreased andmalondialdehyde (MDA) concentration was significantly higher in patients ten that in control group . And the activity of glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px) decreased while the concentration of nitric oxide(NO) increased in GH patients; 2.The patients also were in low cellular immunity showing lower concentration of T lymphocyte and higher concentration of NK cells. And they had significant difference between outbreak period and relapse period 3Human simplex virus causes the abnormal oxidative stress and the latter leads to viral injury to the body. The abnormal condition is harmful to inhibit to replication of virus. There is no correlation between abnormal oxidative stress and low cellular immunity in this study but they maybe contribute to the chronic course.
