A Survey On Current Health Service Status Of Rural People In Yilong County

Objective: Through the investigation on the health resource status, needs and utilization of the health service in Yilong County, a poverty-stricken county at national level, The project aims to find out the current status of health resources of the rural people in Yilong County, as well as the factors that influence the needs and utilization of these resources, so as to find a way to improve the health of the rural people. Moreover, a health development plan can be designed, and the health resources can be better distributed in Yilong County based on this survey. Methodology:This investigation covered 18 towns by stratified random sampling according to the economic status. Questionnaires were used to collect such information as labor force, income and expense, and equipment of the hospitals or clinics at town level and village level. In addition, information of the general health status, health resources and financing was from document searching. By cluster sampling, 1187 rural people were visited in order to find out their health service need and utilization. Results:1. The health service need of the rural people in Yilong County is high, but their health service demand has been limited bv a number offactors. And the utilization of health service is relatively insufficient.2. The three-level-net health care system in Yilong county needs to be perfected.3. The health service supply and need focus on clinical care. Disease prevention and health protection is to be strengthened.4. Furthermore, the need changes with sex, age, education background and marital status.5. The disease burden is still high in the region.6> Compared with the material of the Second National Health ServicesSurvey in 1998, the health service in Yiong countryside is described as following: high health needs, insufficient input, utilization equal to that of the national level. The health needs of the rural people can not be satisfied.Suggestions:Some suggestions are given to improve the health of the rural people at this region based on the practical status, including: more health input from different channels, strengthening of health organizations at town level and village level, better qualification of the health labor force, health education, more prevention and diseases control, easier access to health service, lightening of the health expenses burden, promotion of cooperative health care system and other health insurance systems, plus more health investment from the rural people.
