Objective To investigate the manifestations and surgical treatments forgeriatric regressive cardiovalvular diseases. Methods Sixty-nine cases [age ranging from 60~80y.o (68.9±8.5y.o)]with geriatricregressive cardiovalvular diseases who eventually received aortic valvereplacement(38 cases), mitral valve replacement(8 cases) or both (23 cases) wereinvolved in our study. And the hallmarks and clinical treatment of valvulardiseases were studied by a retrospective analysis. Results: 1. The valve most frequently involved in geriatric regressivecardiovalvular diseases is aortic valve, especially the right posterior semilunarvalve; 2. Twenty cases (39.1%) with geriatric regressive cardiovalvular diseaseswere complicated with CAD, and among whom, the morbidity of CAD inpatients with aortic valvular calcification is significantly higher than that inpatients with mitral valvular calcification (92.6% versus 7.4%, P<0.05). As aresult, coronary angiography is strongly recommended in the cases withgeriatric regressive cardiovalvular diseases; 3. Thirty-nine cases suffered lowcardiac output syndrome, frequent ventricular premature beat or respiratoryfailure. Six out of 69 cases had not survived the surgery, turning out a mortalityof 8.7%. The postoperative cardiac function of all the 63 survivals was restoredto grade Ⅰ-Ⅱ(NYHA), and their quality of life was obviously ameliorated. Conclusions Cardiovalvular replacement is effective for those with geriatricregressive cardiovalvular diseases and a routine preoperative coronaryangiography is needed. As for the cases complicated with CAD, simultaneousCABG is recommended in process of valve replacement.
